As a motorist, you have an obligation to keep your car safe and roadworthy. Weekly maintenance checks, and knowing what to look for, will help but it is the annual MOT test that truly determines how safe your car is. Steve’s Autos Lancing Ltd is an approved DVSA testing facility. We operate from premises on Ingleside Road with dedicated bays put aside solely for MOT tests, which helps us to manage our turnaround times.

Another is that the MOT garage uses qualified inspectors, has suitable lifting equipment fitted, and owns a computer system that links to the national database. This means our customers in the surrounding Lancing, Goring, Hove, Shoreham and Worthing areas receive a convenient reminder by phone, text or email whenever they have an upcoming MOT test due.
You must take your car to a local MOT garage for a test annually, and if your car is more than three years old.
Pre-Inspection – if you want to give your car the best possible chance of passing the MOT test, book in for a pre-inspection. We can find faults, and repair them, so that your car can sails through the subsequent test.
The MOT Test – The inspection takes around 45 minutes to complete. Wait in comfortable viewing facilities while we perform the test, or you can leave your car in our hands and collect it at the end of the day or after work.
MOT Repairs – Should your car fail the inspection, leave it at our MOT garage while we repair it. We will ring you if your car fails the MOT test and, if you approve the repair work, we often retest for free the same day.
If you don’t have the time available to visit us personally, Steve’s Autos Lancing Ltd offers a handy collection and delivery service. We can collect your car from home, or from your place of work, anywhere in Goring, Hove, Shoreham, Worthing or the surrounding West Sussex area.

While the typical test time is 45 to 60 minutes, having to use our MOT garage for repairs means the required work could take longer. If your car fails the MOT test, we will notify you and offer a quotation for any repairs it might need. We will never start any repair work without your consent. You cannot drive your car away unless you have a valid certificate, or if you plan to take it directly to another place for repairs.
With minor work, we can often have your car repaired and retested on the same day as the original inspection.
The DVSA sets a fixed price for the annual MOT test. Your MOT garage must not charge you more than the specified rate but many workshops, including our own, offer testing over multiple categories at prices well below the set DVSA figure.
If your car passes the test, we issue a new certificate valid for 12 months from the date of the inspection.
If a car fails the test, please be aware of the following:
• You cannot drive the car away with a dangerous fault
• You don’t have to use the same MOT garage for repairs
• Only drive it if your car has a valid MOT certificate
• Your car must still be roadworthy for you to use it
In all other cases, you can only drive away if you are taking your car directly for repairs at a different workshop in Lancing, Goring, Hove, Shoreham or Worthing, or to another MOT garage for a secondary inspection. Even if your car passes the MOT test, there may be advisories to consider. We always urge that you to deal with advisory work quickly.
